Range Rules and Safety

Every member and guest is responsible for knowing and following the club’s range rules. Safe firearm handling, respect for other shooters, and care of club property are required at all times.

Range Hours

As a courtesy to our neighbors, no shooting is permitted before 9:00 AM. The range is open daily from 9:00 AM until the nighttime security light on the clubhouse comes on, except on Wednesdays, when the range opens at 1:00 PM following volunteer maintenance.

Temporary closures may occur during scheduled matches, range maintenance, or city and utility work.

Membership and Access

  • Membership covers the primary member, spouse, and children under age 18.
  • Children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
  • The same guest may visit up to three times per year before being expected to join.
  • Non-members may participate in scheduled matches and public club events.
  • Annual dues are due each January. The gate combination changes in March.
  • The last member leaving the property must lock all gates.

General Safety

  • No alcoholic beverages are permitted on club property.
  • Eye and hearing protection must be worn at all times while on the firing line.
  • Loaded firearms must remain pointed safely downrange.
  • Obey all cease-fire commands and instructions from the Range Officer or Range Master.
  • No practice or recreational shooting is permitted during a scheduled match without permission from the Range Officer.

Cease Fires and Downrange Activity

No shooting is permitted when:

  • Anyone is downrange.
  • Farmers are working in adjacent fields.
  • Range maintenance is underway.
  • City or utility work is taking place behind the range.
  • The warning system is activated.
  • A Range Officer or Range Master calls a cease fire.

Before anyone goes downrange, all firearms must be unloaded, made safe, and placed at rest on the bench or rack.

The person who activates the warning system is responsible for turning it off only after everyone has returned and it is safe to resume shooting.

Approved Targets

Use only:

  • Paper targets attached to the provided backing boards.
  • Steel targets installed and maintained by the club.

The following are prohibited:

  • Homemade steel targets or steel target holders.
  • Bottles, cans, computers, fire extinguishers, appliances, garbage, or other unauthorized objects.
  • Explosive targets.
  • Objects placed on top of posts or target stands.

Attach paper targets to the backing material between the wooden supports. Do not shoot posts, PVC holders, frames, or other parts of the target stands.

Firearm and Range Restrictions

  • No .50 BMG firearms.
  • No fully automatic firearms.
  • No explosive targets.
  • Rifle-range targets must be at least 25 yards from the firing line.
  • Use the pistol range for shooting at distances shorter than 25 yards.
  • The pistol range may be used with handguns, pistol-caliber firearms, and rimfire rifles.
  • Centerfire rifles are not permitted on the pistol range.

Range Care and Cleanup

Members are responsible for leaving the range clean and ready for the next shooter.

Before leaving:

  • Pick up spent brass and shotgun hulls.
  • Remove paper targets from downrange.
  • Place trash and empty ammunition boxes in the provided receptacles.
  • Return staple guns, push pins, tools, and other club equipment.
  • Empty full trash cans into the dumpster when necessary and relock the dumpster afterward.

Brooms, rakes, shovels, dustpans, a rolling magnet, and a hand cart are available in the building.

Report any damaged target stand, frame, backing board, post, or PVC holder promptly to a club officer.

Club Property and Conduct

  • Do not intentionally damage target stands, posts, club steel, buildings, equipment, or other club property.
  • Intentional damage or misuse may result in loss of membership and possible prosecution.
  • Be courteous to other shooters.
  • Politely remind anyone violating the rules and report serious or repeated violations to a club officer.
  • Use sound judgment and common sense whenever a situation is not specifically addressed.

Know and Follow the Rules

Every member and guest is responsible for knowing and following these rules while on club property. Safe firearm handling, respect for others, and care of club facilities are required at all times.
