The Black Swamp Rifle & Pistol Club is proud to host monthly matches for the Northwest Ohio Bench Rest Shooters (NWOBRS) from April through November each year. These are centerfire rifle bench rest matches shot at 100 or 200 yards and may be for group or for score (see schedule). Shooters draw for benches and pay $15 for the match. Matches consist of five (5) targets with five (5) rounds for scoring on each target with seven (7) minutes per target. Shooters are allowed an unlimited number of sighter shots, but they must also all be within the seven (7) minute time limit. The fifth round target also features a Smiley sticker with a hole in the center. Shooters take one shot to try and shoot through the hole.
Cash prizes are paid to the shooters with the lowest three (3) aggregate scores in each class, the smallest group in each class, and the closest to the hole in the smiley. Prize amounts depend on number of shooters.
Competitors may shoot in one of two classes depending on their rifle: Factory, Varmint (Field gun) and Open.
Varmint Class rifles do not have to be original – must contain a factory receiver, and chambered in a factory offered chambering. Aftermarket stocks, bedding and trigger work are permitted. No flat bottom stocks permitted.
Open Class essentially follows the NBRSA/IBS rules for Heavy Varmint rifle class. Per the NBRSA rulebook:
HEAVY VARMINT RIFLE. A Heavy Varmint Rifle is any rifle having a safe manually and mechanically operated firing mechanism and must not weigh more than 13 ½ pounds, inclusive of sights. The stock should have a flat or convex forearm not more than 3 inches wide and having a toe formed by an acute angle that conforms to the Varmint Rifle diagram (on page 68 of Rev. Ed. No. 36).
The barrel would not be less than 18” long forward of the bolt face and a diameter of not more than 1.250 inches from the bolt face forward 5 inches. From said 5-inch point, the diameter would not be greater than would be defined by a straight taper between such point and a muzzle diameter of .900 at 29 inches.
Match’s held the First Sunday of the Month from May till November.
